Asafoetida powder (Hing) is used commonly in Indian cooking for flavouring. This way it easily mixes with the dish and it also helps in bringing out the real flavours. Hing is used to aid digestion and gas. Store it in an airtight container. If left open it loses its fragrance. Do not let any moisture in, else it turns out bad.
